A versatile singing actress, Megan Roth is an avid performer of opera, oratorio, and art song. This spring she performed the role of Francisca in Donizetti’s Maria Padilla with Opera Boston, and makes her debut with Opera Providence as Dorabella in Così fan tutte. Other recent performances include Amélie in La Grande Duchesse de Gérolstein with Opera Boston, Angelina in La Cenerentola with Opera del West, and Dorabella in Così fan tutte and the Woman in the Jazz Trio of Bernstein’s Trouble in Tahiti with Boston Midsummer Opera. She sang in the 2011 Pulitzer-Prize winning opera Madame White Snake with Opera Boston and covered the roles of Athamas and Ino in Handel’s Semele in a collaborative production with Boston Baroque and Opera Boston. Ms. Roth will cover the role of Béatrice in Berlioz’s Béatrice et Bénédict with Opera Boston this fall, as well as making her debut with the Rhode Island Civic Chorale & Orchestra as the alto soloist in the Handel Messiah.
Past operatic engagements have included featured ensemble member with the Grammy award-winning cast of Osvaldo Golijov’s Ainadamar with Opera Boston, under the direction of Peter Sellars and Robert Castro. She also was acclaimed for her performance of the role of Octavia in Britannicus, a play by Jean Racine, at the American Repertory Theatre (A.R.T.).
On the concert stage Ms. Roth recently performed Handel’s Messiah with the Marblehead Festival Chorus and Commonwealth Opera, and Bach’s Magnificat with the Choral Art Society in Scituate, Massachusetts. She is a frequent soloist for the Marblehead Festival Chorus, where she has performed the alto solos in the Duruflé Requiem, Mozart Requiem and Vesperae solennes de confessore, selections from Bach’s Weihnacht’s Oratorium, Haydn Missa Cellensis, Zelenka Magnificat, and the Preatorius Puer natus in Bethlehem.
Ms. Roth is a dedicated performer of art song, and has presented numerous recitals in Boston for such organizations as the Chromatic Club, the Emery Bag Women’s Club, the Goethe Institute, the Old North Church of Marblehead recital series, and the ‘Wednesdays at St. John’s’ musical series. Ms. Roth has participated in several distinguished vocal competitions, placing first in the Hannah Beaulieu Career Development Grant Competition in 2005 and third in the Lakes Region Opera Competition in 2008.
Ms. Roth holds an Artist Certificate in Opera and a Master of Music in Vocal Performance from Florida State University. Ms. Roth is also an accomplished violinist, and holds a Bachelor of Music with honor in Violin Performance from DePaul University. She was a regular member of the Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra from 2001-2006.
Ms. Roth currently studies with Rebecca Folsom.
